The Number One Secret to Overcome Fear

Oh hey, queen. In this video, I'm going to tell you my number one secret to overcome fear and nerves.

So, there is one thing that I do, which helps me so much if I'm feeling nervous or I'm feeling fear, and you might be thinking, "Victoria, you're so confident. How can you ever feel nervous?" Well, sometimes, our bodies take over our brains, and so we have to try and wrangle them, and so my number one thing to do ... Say, if you're about to do a presentation at work, you're about to step on stage, you're about to tell someone that you don't want to be with them anymore, you're about to tell someone that you want to be with them, you're about to do ... jump off a cliff with a bungee rope, whatever it is, my one tip to wrangle those nerves is to breathe.

So, by breathing, even taking one breath, you are igniting your parasympathetic nervous system, and so you're telling your body, you're telling your brain, "I'm okay," because if you were in a dangerous situation, your heart rate will be super fast. Your breathing will quicken because you're ready to fight, right? And so, if you go into presentation and you're breathing really quickly, your heart rate, du, du, du, du, du, du, you won't be able to do the thing you're about to do as well as if you had your breathing under control because you're in panic mode. Your body is like, "Okay, ready. I'm ready to fight. I'm ready to fight. Oh my god. Wait a sec. So scary."

You can trick your brain into becoming relaxed, so you just need to take a breath in, slowly exhale, and you know, the really good thing about doing this, especially if you're speaking, is it makes you look super confident actually. When you're not confident and you are stressed out, generally, you talk really fast, and you go ... and you're not taking time for a breath, and you can tell it in people's voice, and they're like, "Yes. So I'm doing the ... I'm doing this thing."

If you take a moment for a moment of silence, you appear really confident and calm, and it isn't like you don't know what you want to say. It looks like you're doing this pregnant pause, giving people time to soak in the information, and that's a pretty good thing to do as well because if you're talking really fast, then they're not listening to what you're saying. Right?

So, try it out, this deep breathing in and out, and you can do it before you ... say, if you're going on stage. Before I went speed-dating, I just sat in my car and breathed in. I said, "You are worthy," and this can go with anything, but, "You are worthy," is like a catch-all phrase for anything that's scary, and you are worthy.
